Sharm el-Sheikh: the history of the city

The city is located on the very edge of the Sinai Peninsula. And its name is translated from Arabic as «Sheikh’s coast» or «Sheikh’s Bay».

Founded during the Ottoman Empire on the site of a small settlement of fishermen and merchants. The first memories of this settlement date back to the 18th century. In the tourist role, the city is still a «young man», as it entered the business from the mid-1980s.
