It just so happened that when choosing transport for travel, we first of all think about the plane, and when traveling short distances — about the car. But, as a rule, in any case, we forget about the train. Travel expert Denis Zavazalsky decided to correct this misunderstanding by talking about the unique trains that run around Russia and the railway routes that deserve attention.

“RED ARROW”

The branded and very famous train has been connecting Moscow and St. Petersburg since 1931. The first carriages of the Red Arrow were made of wood. The composition then included 12 blue cars. In 1962, their coloring was changed to dark red. The Red Arrow is the first Soviet train to feature high-class sleeping cars (the so-called SV). In the pre-war years, representatives of the authorities traveled by train. For them, a convenient departure time was set — 23:55. During this time, the schedule has not changed for a minute. Now the speed of the train reaches 160 km/h, and it covers the distance between the two capitals in eight hours.

A regular passenger retro train that runs on a steam locomotive, linking the shore of Lake Ladoga and the Ruskeala field. It consists of five cars — including a dining car. Inside, the Express is decorated in the style of the interior of the carriage, on which the architect Auguste Montferrand (Isaac’s Cathedral and the Alexander Column in St. Petersburg were built according to his designs) came to Ruskeala. By the way, the modern railway from Sortavala to Ruskeala runs along the route of the land road, along which marble was delivered from Lake Ladoga.

The creators of this train have taken into account the maximum number of nuances to take the experience of passenger transportation to a whole new level. The train has eight service classes: Standard, Standard+, Business, Business Comfort, Business Premium, Grand, Grand Imperial Single, Grand Imperial. The train runs from Moscow to St. Petersburg and back at night, which is quite convenient. Travel time is just under nine hours.

In a compartment for two passengers — two sofas 60 cm wide each, with individual lighting. When buying a whole compartment, small animals or a large dog can be transported at no additional charge for carriage.
