Lake Braies in Italy

The lake extends at the foot of the Croda del Becco cliff. It is part of Fares-Senn-Place Natural Park. Lake Braies is 1200 meters long and 300-400 meters wide. The maximum depth is 38 meters, and the average is about 17 meters. These figures make Braies one of the deepest lakes in the Alpine region of Alto Adige.

The «Pearl of the Dolomites» is formed by landslides descending from the rock of Sasso del Signore. It was given such a beautiful name because the lake is surrounded by the glorious rocky cliffs of the Dolomites on three sides. If you decide to come here, plan your trip during the summer season. At this time of the year, the water in the lake has the highest temperature, but still remains quite cool, and not everyone dares to dive into it. You can also rent a boat from the pier and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings right out of the water. This pleasure will cost you 10 euros for 30 minutes, or 15 euros per hour.

Hiking trails and convenient bike paths have been specially designed for travelers, along with equipped picnic areas on the shores of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. If camping isn’t your thing, you can stay at the Lago di Braies with stunning views of the mountains and lake. Even tired of hard working days, locals come here quite often to take a walk along the shore of the reservoir, enjoy a small picnic, or update photos on social networks. Therefore, it is recommended to come here early in the morning to take a place in the paid parking lot.
